Power Sector Advanced Metering Market to reach €22 bn by 2035

The Advanced Metering Infrastructure market in the European power sector is currently valued at €7.81 bn and projected to grow to €22 bn by 2035.

This growth is driven by next generation meter roll-out with integrated IoT, advanced analytics, and data-driven grid management across Germany, Spain, Greece, and Central/Eastern Europe in particular.

At SGT26 Paris we will review the latest utility implementation experiences with next generation meter roll-out, evaluate the new functionalities required to support increased flexibility and demand response, and discuss utility road maps in terms of new technology and partnership requirements.

Just some of the case-studies that will be shared include:

DLMS/COSEM – mapping the evolution toward a more open, cybersecure, interoperable, real-time, data-rich standard that will easily adapt to new energy service models on the horizon

Smart Meter Functionality – enabling real-time metering and secure two-way communication, to support evolving market mechanisms such as dynamic tariffs and flexibility services

Smart Meter Roll-Out – leveraging advanced logistical solutions to speed up the deployment of next generation smart meters

Security by Design – specifying strong cryptography, device authentication, device manufacturing, frequent updates and ongoing risk assessment, from the earliest design phases

Headend – integrating EDGE computing to ensure reliability, flexibility and real-time value of next generation headend systems

Meter Data Management – implementing scalable, secure, highly interoperable MDMS platforms to turn raw meter data into actionable insights while meeting quality and performance requirements

Broadband PLC – enabling cost-effective high-speed, low-latency data transmission for advanced smart metering infrastructure

Multi-Edition Management – establishing a robust asset management, automated reporting and upgrade strategy to ensure effective management of a range of smart meters in the grid

AI & ML – embedding advanced intelligence at the grid EDGE to unlock real-time localised decision making and a more adaptive power system

Flexibility & Demand Response – integrating a robust, flexible, and future-proof technical smart metering architecture that adapts to new requirements with ease and delivers reliable, scalable, and secure services for all grid participants

Data Visualisation – making massive multi-source data meaningful, reliable, and actionable for a wide variety of users while maintaining trust, privacy, and scalability

Congestion Management – enabling granular, dynamic, and automated control over grid loads to maintain grid stability while optimizing asset use, integrating renewables, and minimizing the risk and cost of grid congestion
